Team Overview

East Lake CERT Medical team provides medical support during all member activities. This support consists of pre-hospital medical activities which include BLS (Basic Life Support) efforts. Many of the Medical team members continue past their advanced first aid training which is given in the CERT training class to Emergency Medical Responder training. This allows the member to provide a more well rounded care for victims.

Duties and Responsibilities

East Lake CERT Medical team will be activated with the activation call in the event that support is needed to provide victim / patient care. This care will consist of Triage (French word meaning "to sort") victims into the correct color categories, Treatment of those patients when they are moved from the incident to the treatment area, and packaging of the patient in preparation for transport to a local surge facility or hospital. Many Triage members are also cross trained in Search and Rescue in the event that they will not be able to accompany a SAR team member into a location which might contain victims.

Tools and Resources

The Medical Team is equipped with the tools necessary to provide BLS (basic life support) for victims found during an incident. These tools consist of tagging, first aid, and identification equipment.
